The S.A.F.E. (or Sanctuary for the Advancement of Fellowship and Education) urban school will be an architectural prototype employing a variety of effective design techniques from successful schools across the world that are defined by their individual approaches to promoting safety, community, and 21st century learning. The distillation of these design techniques will become the framework for the S.A.F.E. urban school, where security and community become inextricably linked so as to develop a symbiotic relationship in an effort to unify the dialectic between the mental and physical states of feeling and being safe. In this context, safe is defined not only as a physical state of being secure from harm or danger but also a feeling of comfort and inclusion.
